Labor Day Weekend

Our Labor Day weekend started out slow and relaxing! Friday, Randy and Lexus cheered the Bluebirds to a victory over Ryle and Kimberly, Austin and I celebrated Mom's birthday with dinner at Dad and Mom's house. Saturday, Lexus played her 2nd soccer game of the season, this year we actually have real uniforms thanks to the booster's club. It was also girl's night at my house. I finished Austin's 4th of July page for his scrapbook and started a 2-page spread on our 2 trips to Great Wolf Lodge. A bonus from girl's night - I learned how to "Maguiver" a bottle of wine open with just a screw, a screwdriver and a pair of pliers.

Sunday, we relaxed around the house and watched the WEBN fireworks on the bridge on Highland Ave. A really great view and the price...FREE! Plus, we don't have to fight all the traffic when it's over. But, Labor Day held the most fun for our family! We took the kids to the Alexandria Fair to sign them up for the chicken and pig races (yearly tradition). Members from both the Grothaus and Ossege families joined us. Kimberly won her heat in the individual chicken races for 3, 4, and 5 yr. olds. Next, came the group chicken race for the younger ones and Kimberly came walking back triumpently holding her new chicken "Chickie Wickie". Then, it was time for the next age group, (lightning struck twice) Lexus came walking back holding her new rooster "Clucky Lucky". In all, as a group we caught 2 roosters and 3 chickens! Chickie and Clucky now reside under our deck. Unfourtunatly, city law prohibits us from keeping the rooster, so this weekend we are taking Clucky to a nice farm in Dry Ridge.

Here is a video of Kimberly winning her heat at the fair...

If that's what it takes to drink wine, then that' what it takes!!!!! LOVE the "McGyver" reference.
