Where'd You go?

So, it feels like forever since our last post, but it was only last Sunday! We have lots to share with you to make up for it. First, I want to share a little about the Art projects I am doing with the students. Kindergarten just finished learning about colors and painted a rainbow, 1st grade drew the 1st letter of their name and created pattern with pics that started with the same letter inside. 2nd grade had the coolest project called "symmetrical name aliens". They wrote their name on a folded piece of paper and then cut it out to create the symmetrical alien shape. They drew the features of the alien making sure each side looked identical and then colored them. We added them to an outer space background too. 3rd & 4th grades were working on similar projects dealing with radial balance. 5th grade was working on tags (kinda of like the graffiti names you see on the overpasses or train cars). They had to design their name almost like a logo. This week, we started Santa House Family Portraits! You might think it is an easy week teaching the same lesson over and over again. Think again! Try teaching the same lesson to 450 students in grades K-5 with varying levels of ability and understanding. I really respect what our Art teacher does at Moyer.

This past Friday, we just hung around the house and relaxed, no need to venture out into the nasty, rainy weather we had. Saturday, Lexus played her last soccer game of the fall season (they lost). We watched a little college football (Mich St. vs. Mich) and cleaned up the house. The real fun started Saturday night! We went out to eat and attended the Harvest Festival at The Highland here in Ft. Thomas. They had face painting, balloon animals, hot dogs, chips, popcorn, drinks, 3 blow-ups, Mr. Cowpie, kids drawing, and a witch and background for photo ops. The best part...it was all free!!! Can you believe that! We met up with our in-laws and had a wonderful time, even got a free pumpkin. My niece Rachel won a gift card from the raffle ($25 to ToysRus)and they gave away 10 of these. The girls finished the night off with a Scooby Doo Marathon on the laptop in our room with some popcorn. Sunday, we watched the Bengals lose again. We checked out the new Burlington Coat Factory and got each child a new winter coat.

Halloween is just around the corner!!! This year we have some exciting costumes: Lexus - Pocahontas, Kimberly - Tinkerbell, and Austin - Triceratops. I think everyone is excited about the big 4-day weekend coming up. I'm just happy all this election business will be over. So don't forget to vote on Tuesday! Randy is in Wisconsin until Friday, hopefully I will be able to post some great Halloween pics that night of Trick-or-Treating.

I was missing your posts! Glad you're back. Your art projects look WoNdErFuL - it's a whole different perspective teaching a specials class, isn't it? I have such a greater appreciation for them after I worked in the library. Have a great rest of the week!!!
